Oliver Queen returns to Starling City after five years away, now focused on being a hero rather than a vigilante. He adopts a new no-kill rule, inspired by his friend Tommy’s death. However, his mission becomes more complicated when a new threat emerges: Slade Wilson, a former ally turned enemy. Slade, now enhanced by the Mirakuru serum, seeks revenge against Oliver for past betrayals.
Meanwhile, Oliver’s sister Thea struggles with the revelation that Malcolm Merlyn is her biological father. She distances herself from her family and starts working at a club owned by Roy Harper, who is secretly Oliver’s ally. Roy, affected by the Mirakuru, struggles with violent impulses, forcing Oliver to help him regain control.
Felicity Smoak and Diggle continue supporting Oliver, with Felicity developing feelings for him. Diggle reconnects with his ex-wife, Lyla Michaels, and joins A.R.G.U.S., a covert organization. The trio also faces a new adversary, Brother Blood, a cult leader exploiting the Mirakuru’s power.
Flashbacks reveal Oliver’s time on the island with Slade and Shado, showing how their friendship fractured. Shado’s death and Slade’s subsequent transformation into a vengeful killer haunt Oliver. In the present, Slade manipulates events to destroy Oliver’s life, including targeting his mother, Moira.
The season culminates in a brutal confrontation between Oliver and Slade. Moira sacrifices herself to protect her children, devastating Oliver and Thea. With the help of Team Arrow and new allies like Laurel Lance, who begins training as a vigilante, Oliver defeats Slade and stops his army of Mirakuru soldiers.
In the aftermath, Oliver leaves Starling City, but a final twist reveals that his sister Thea has left with Malcolm Merlyn, setting up new conflicts for the future. The season ends with Oliver embracing his role as a hero, ready to face whatever comes next.
