Peaky Blinders is a Steven Knight-created British historical crime drama television series. It is set in Birmingham and recounts the adventures of the Peaky Blinders criminal gang in the immediate aftermath of World War I. The fictitious gang is partially based on the same-named real-life urban youth gang that operated in the city from the 1880s through the 1910s.
Peaky Blinders is a crime thriller set in Birmingham, England, in 1919, six months after the conclusion of World War I. It follows a family of mixed Irish Traveller and Romani heritage. The story revolves around the Peaky Blinders street gang and its ambitious and crafty crime boss Tommy Shelby (Murphy).
Major Chester Campbell (Neill), a detective chief inspector in the Royal Irish Constabulary sent over by Winston Churchill from Belfast, where he had been sent to rid the city of the Irish Republican Army flying columns, the Communist Party of Great Britain, street gangs, and common criminals, becomes aware of the gang.
The Peaky Blinders extend their criminal operation throughout the “South and North while maintaining a stronghold in their Birmingham heartland” in the second season. It began in 1921 and culminates on Derby Day, May 31, 1922, at Epsom Racecourse.
The third season is set in 1924, and it follows Tommy and his gang as they enter an even more perilous world by expanding once more, this time globally. Father John Hughes (Paddy Considine), a member of an anti-communist organisation, is also featured in the third series, as is Ruben Oliver (Alexander Siddig), a painter whom Polly hires to paint her portrait; Russian Grand Duchess Tatiana Petrovna (Gaite Jansen); and Linda Shelby (Kate Phillips), Arthur’s new wife.
The fourth series begins on Christmas Eve 1925, with the Peaky Blinders learning that the New York Mafia, led by Luca Changretta (Adrien Brody), is coming to avenge the murders committed the previous season, and concludes after the general strike of May 1926, with Tommy using Jessie Eden for information and being elected as a Member of Parliament in 1927.
The sixth series takes place two years later, from 29 October 1929 (Black Tuesday) to 7 December 1929, the morning following a demonstration led by British Union of Fascists leader Sir Oswald Mosley.
The sixth series begins on December 5, 1933, when prohibition in the United States is lifted. The Nazi Party has gained power in Germany, which has increased membership in the British Union of Fascists. Tommy must cope not just with Mosley, but also with plans from the Irish Mafia and the Anti-Treaty IRA.
