Snowpiercer is a post-apocalyptic dystopian thriller television series that will debut on TNT on May 17, 2020. It is based on both Bong Joon-2013 ho’s film of the same name and the 1982 French graphic novel Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob, Benjamin Legrand, and Jean-Marc Rochette, from which the film was adapted.
The series, a reboot of the film’s continuity, follows the passengers of the Snowpiercer, a massive, continually moving train that rounds the globe seven years after the planet becomes a frozen wasteland, transporting the last remains of civilization. The series raises issues such as class conflict, societal injustice, and survival politics.
Mickey Sumner, Alison Wright, Iddo Goldberg, Susan Park, Katie McGuinness, Sam Otto, Sheila Vand, Mike O’Malley, Annalise Basso, Jaylin Fletcher, Lena Hall, and Roberto Urbina co-star. In the second season, Steven Ogg, Rowan Blanchard, and Sean Bean joined the main cast, and in the third season, Chelsea Harris and Archie Panjabi joined the main cast.
Snowpiercer is set in 2026, seven years after the globe has frozen over, and follows the survivors of mankind who have sought refuge on a never-ending luxury train. Mr. Wilford, an eccentric businessman, designed and built the train, which has 1,001 cars and circuits the world 2.7 times every year.
The train’s steady speed supplies energy and keeps the passengers from freezing. The train’s population has been rigorously divided by class since the disaster, caught up in a revolutionary war against the strictly imposed social hierarchy and unequal allocation of limited resources. The show delves into topics of class conflict, social injustice, and survival politics.
