The Serpent Queen is an American period drama television series based on the life of Catherine de’ Medici, Queen of France in the 16th century, as played by actress Samantha Morton. Justin Haythe developed the series, which is based on Leonie Frieda’s 2004 factual book Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France.
On September 11, 2022, The Serpent Queen debuted on Starz. On October 27, 2022, Starz renewed the series for a second season.
The series chronicles the narrative of Catherine de’ Medici, a fourteen-year-old girl who marries into the French Valois court and is expected to bring in a lot in dowry and produce heirs. Despite several hurdles, a career of deft political manoeuvring allows her to reign as Queen of France for 30 years.
