Emre ahin’s 2022 Turkish time travel historical drama television series Midnight at the Pera Palace stars Hazal Kaya, Tansu Biçer, and Selahattin Paşal. The programme premiered on Netflix on March 3, 2022, with an eight-episode first season.
The series, which is based on the real-life Pera Palace Hotel, was inspired by Charles King’s 2014 historical non-fiction book Midnight at the Pera Palace: The Birth of Modern Istanbul.
Esra (Hazal Kaya), a young orphaned journalist in modern-day Istanbul, is assigned to write a piece about the Pera Palace Hotel’s forthcoming 130th anniversary. She meets the hotel’s manager, Ahmet (Tansu Biçer), who shows her around and tells her about the Pera Palace’s history and some of its notable visitors.
Esra is particularly interested in the story of Peride, a young woman who appears to have saved Mustafa Kemal from an assassination plan arranged by the British during the occupation of Istanbul in 1919.
What Ahmet doesn’t tell her is that, when combined with a strange key, one of the hotel’s rooms transforms into a time-traveling gateway. That night, Esra inadvertently time travels back to 1919, when she is quickly misidentified as her apparent counterpart, Peride.
Her interactions with guys like George, a conniving British officer (James Chalmers), Halit, an intriguing nightclub owner (Selahattin Paşal), and Reşat, a police officer in love with Peride (Engin Hepileri), make her unsure who to trust. She must, however, work with Ahmet to find a means to halt the murder attempt on Mustafa Kemal and preserve Turkey’s independence.
